Splash Pad at Park

Many members of the Estacada community have been asking for a splash pad or some kind of water activity to be included in the Estacada park system since 2012. In 2018, the Parks Master Plan was updated and the most requested amenity was a splash pad. Page 52 of the Master Plan Appendices reveals that an Outdoor spray park/water play feature was the top choice among questionnaire respondents. (Plan and Appendices can be viewed here:  https://www.cityofestacada.org/government/boards/parks-recreation-commission/)

Splash Pad at ParkThe components for a splash pad have been purchased. It will require an area that is 65 feet by 35 feet. The actual water play area will be 45 feet by 25 feet. This design will use a maximum of 17,280 gallons per day if it were run continually for 8 hours. Once a water conservation plan is adopted by the City Council later this year, the hours of use may be restricted based on overall water usage in the city. Shared water usage for recreation is one way to manage water use during the summer while providing access for small children to play outside during the hot weather. When the water features are not in use, the surface provides an inclusive play area for small children through the remaining months of the year.

As of January 2024, the City is working to identify the best location to construct a splash pad. The Parks Master Plan pointed to Campanella City Park for the location of the splash pad, but the current community members have shown a strong interest in preserving the undeveloped green space, with a couple other potential amenities to be added in the future. City staff will be providing a list of locations to the Parks and Recreation Commission including the pros and cons of each location. After reviewing the options, Parks and Recreation Commissioners will make a recommendation to the City Council on the location. Options may include current City parks as well as potential future parks.
