This morning at approximately 10:15 am, the City was notified of a Hazardous Materials situation on Veterans Blvd in the NW quadrant of town. The Estacada Fire District had responded and put in place a Level 3 evacuation order (Go Now) for within a half mile radius of the incident as per National Hazmat Standards. City Public Works employees assisted with directing traffic and closing roads. Estacada Police Services through Clackamas County Sheriff's Office managed the evacuations with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies who also responded.
By 11:00 Chief O'Connor of the Estacada Fire District provided information that the contents of the container had been identified and the Hazmat team was evaluating the situation. The Evacuation Zone was reduced to a Level 3 within a quarter mile radius of the incident.
At 11:18 Chief O'Connor notified the City that the evacuation zone would be reduced to level 3 within 150 feet of the incident.
By 12:45 all evacuation orders had lifted.
The City appreciates Estacada Fire for their management of the incident and our Estacada Police Services through Clackamas County Sheriff Office for leading the evacuation efforts. Thank you also to personnel from other agencies including those from Portland Fire, Clackamas Fire, Gresham Fire, the State Fire Marshall and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
