CITY OF ESTACADA OPENS INVITATION TO OFFER AN INVOCATION
AT ESTACADA CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
The Estacada City Council passed a resolution that invites interested community members to volunteer to deliver a brief invocation or reflection at the start of City Council meetings and some committee meetings. City Council meetings are scheduled for the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. and are open to the public.
The purpose of the invocation is to set a positive and respective tone for meetings; lend gravity to the occasion; solemnize the proceeding; and encourage reflection upon shared ideals. Invocations and reflections may be either religious or nonreligious in nature. The invocation must meet the following requirements:
ELIGIBILITY
- Any resident of the Estacada Area who wishes to provide an invocation in accordance with the City’s Invocation Policy.
- Any representative of religious or faith-based congregations, organizations, or assemblies located within the Estacada Area who wishes to provide an invocation in accordance with the City’s Invocation Policy.
- Community members of all faiths, beliefs, religions, spiritualities, philosophies, denominations, and belief systems represented and practiced within the Estacada Area are invited.
- The “Estacada Area” is defined to mean within the geographic boundaries of the Estacada School District, which will be verified at the time of scheduling.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- Speakers must prepare their own invocation content.
- Invocations should be positive and uplifting.
- Speakers may not put down, disparage, denigrate, or comment negatively on any particular faith or belief. Speakers may not proselytize during their invocation.
- Speakers will be given a maximum time of two minutes per invocation.
- Speakers may be scheduled for up to one invocation per quarter per calendar year.
- Speakers will not receive compensation for the preparation or offering of invocations.
- Invocations may be given in person only.

Select up to one meeting per quarter for which you would like to offer an invocation. Invocation dates will be scheduled on a first-come basis (i.e., in the order that volunteers select their meeting dates).
