Chapter 13.04 WATER SERVICE
13.04.180 Check valves and backflow prevention.
A. Check valves shall be installed in customer service
laterals as close as practicable to the meter. The customer shall also install
and maintain such additional pressure reducing valves, pressure relief valves,
check valves, pop-off valves, or other control valves as the director of public
works may direct to protect the customer’s plumbing from abnormal high or
low pressures or from interruptions of service.
B. The director of public works shall establish and enforce
such rules and regulations as are necessary to prevent the backflow of water
into city mains. The rules and regulations shall be approved by the council.
Compliance with the backflow rules and regulations shall be a condition of
receiving water service from the city, and violation thereof shall be deemed a
violation of this chapter. (Prior code § 3.225)
