If the applicant desires to construct the sidewalk in a location other than that provided for in this chapter or in the master street plan adopted by the superintendent of public works shall not cause a survey to be made until the applicant shall have applied for and received a variance from the board of adjustment. The procedure for obtaining a variance shall be the same as is provided for variances under Title 16. (Prior code § 2.230)
