Commissioners
Present:
Gloria Polzin, Jami Berry, Kathleen
Wyatt, Rob Gaskill & Angel Austin.
Am Griswold and Janette Kirchhofer were
absent.
We welcome Rob
Gaskill as our newest member!
The meeting was
called to order at 6:35 pm.
Due to the lack
of a quorum, the December minutes will be reviewed and approved at the February
meeting.
Kathleen
brought an updated financial statement; however, some updates need to be
made. It is estimated that the Arts
Commission has approximately $1,200 and the Summer Celebration budget has
approximately $1,300.
A letter of
notification from the Oregon Arts Commission that the Arts Commissioned
received the “Art Builds Community” grant we applied for in the amount of
$3,000. for Summer Celebration. Yay!
We also
received notification from the Regional Arts and Culture Council awarded the
Arts Commission a grant in the amount $5,485 which is also for Summer
Celebration. Yay again. Thank you, Jane Reid, our resident grant
writer!!
Jane, Am and Jami
are planning a budget meeting in the next week or so. Jami will report on this meeting at our next
meeting.
Fundraising
No report due to Am’s
absence.
The Oregon Symphony
Christmas performance was a huge success.
All tickets were sold. The
community really seemed to enjoy it.
Jane Reid wrote a nice letter in the paper.
Rob reported that the
Chamber would be having their annual meeting on Jan. 19th to go over
their budget and to set goals. One of
their goals will be to try and get a summit meeting together of all the local
groups so everyone knows what everyone else is doing, and perhaps band together
for some projects. He also reported that
the Chamber would be trying to set up a meeting with Linda Bell of the Mt. Hood
Territory TDC in February.
Gloria reported that
Estacada Together was meeting on the upcoming Sunday. Gloria also reported attending the Arts
Action Alliance Publicity Workshop early in December. She spoke with Nancy Nye after the workshop
and Nancy will be attending one of the arts commission meetings in the upcoming
months to offer support and suggestions if needed.
The following
events are still set; however, Jami is waiting for PAGE to figure out the dates
of their play. There is some confusion
with the school. As soon as that is
figured out, she’ll be getting out the mailers.
Dave Piper of
the Wade Creek Park Project approached Gloria about the possibility of the Arts
Commission using their 1% for Art monies to build a wall to display the “Bird
Party” mural that no longer has a home.
The rumors are that the building it was on prior to burning down will
not be rebuilt. Artback would really
like to see the mural stay near or in the park since that was it’s
inspiration. The Arts Commission all
agreed it was a good idea but would like to know about the details of what,
where, and how much. Angel made a good
suggestion for the other side of the proposed wall – the high school could take
it on as an art project, perhaps with tiles.
The meeting
was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
The next
meeting will be held Wed., Feb. 6, 2008 at 6:30 pm in the City
Council chambers.
Respectfully
submitted,
Jami Berry,
Secretary
