COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday,
August 22, 2007 – 7:00 pm

The meeting was called to order at
7:02 pm.

Minutes & August 17, 2007 Minutes:
Cm.
Arnold moved to approve the minutes as presented, Cm. Dahrens seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
City Council Liaison
Report:
Cr. Arnold had no report.
Citizen’s
Concerns & Comments:
There were none.
Commission
Business:
Cr. Arnold
commented that this groundbreaking helps the community realize the park is a
reality.
The Commission
discussed the money that was raised at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Cm. Turk thanked Cr.
Arnold for recognition at the groundbreaking ceremony. Cm. Homan thanked City staff for their help. Cm. Arnold noted a lot of people turned out
for the event. Cm. Miller thanked
Christy Grochowsky for coming through with the blow
up slide.
Cr. Arnold
announced that Tony Dentel from PGE, along with Marilyn
from State Parks and Rec discussed installing the
playground equipment as a learning project.
Cm. Homan has been
in contact with an electrical company that would like to donate 7 lights for
the park.
Cr. Arnold reported
that the City Council approved Civil Works NW and the City will cover any extra
costs. She noted that it was a unanimous
vote.
Cm. Homan discussed
a grant program that she heard about.
She would like permission to write to them to request a grant application. The Commissioners agreed.
GPAA Spaghetti Dinner: Cm. Homan
reported that the Spaghetti Dinner will be held Saturday, September 15 at 5pm
at the Community Center. Cr. Arnold and
Cm. Arnold are working on getting auction items, but will not be at the event. The Commission discussed the logistics of the
event.
The Milwaukie GPAA
Spaghetti Dinner will be at the Milwaukie Grange on Sunday October 21st.
Cm. Turk reminded Cm.
Miller and Cm. Homan about the public access meeting tomorrow morning. Cm. Homan will attend the

discussed the silent auction items they have already collected for the event.
Cm. Turk expressed
her concern about erosion control at the pond.
Cr. Arnold reported that Gary Guttridge pulled
a lot of stuff out of the pond that he shouldn’t have and
Cm. Turk asked if
there any interest in cleaning out the trash in the pond while the water is so low. Cr. Arnold doesn’t think it is safe.
Cm. Turk informed
the Commission that they can watch the county video of the groundbreaking
ceremony if you go to their website. Cr.
Arnold reported that CM Randy Ealy is planning on having a tape of the ceremony
made.
Cm. Homan thanked Cm.
Miller for getting the groundbreaking ceremony videotaped.

Commission Report &
Comments
Cm. Turk would like everyone to keep working on the Spaghetti
Dinner.
Cm.
Arnold asked Cr. Arnold if she had talked to Paul Trubachik
yet about performing a concert as a fundraiser for Parks & Rec. Cr. Arnold answered that it is too late to do
it at the park, but it’s something to think about.
There
was discussion about getting City Vein to perform as a fundraiser.
Cm.
Dahrens thought it was great today. He
is looking forward to watching the construction and getting the park
together. Also, he would like the Commission
to talk to the owner of Y & E Market about keeping with the architecture of
the library and park when he rebuilds.
Cr. Arnold reported that he is planning on putting in more parking
spaces.
Cm.
Soots is looking forward to working on the concert.
Cm.
Soots announced his resignation from P & R because he is moving and should
be gone by Christmas.
Cm.
Soots reported that he is waiting for a detailed budget spreadsheet from Vigil Agrimis so he can ask his company for a large charitable
donation. Cr. Arnold explained that that
is already finished and he needs to talk to Dave Piper.

Miller thought today was awesome.
Cm.
Turk asked about the sports complex. Cm.
Miller informed the Commission that she is trying to set up a meeting to get
that going.
Cr.
Arnold updated the Commission about the Council meeting on Monday night. Mr. Felix called her regarding the skatepark. He is
going to try to convince the board of directors of the mill to lease land to
the city for the skatepark. There is also a local family that has
expressed interest in helping fund the skatepark.
Cr.
Arnold noted that everyone did an awesome job today and she is very proud.
Cm.
Homan reported that she hasn’t noticed anymore library dumping. She noted that this is the last meeting
before the Spaghetti dinner and she will be in contact by email about what
needs to be done.
