Guests
Present: Janette Kirchhofer
and Am Griswold
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 pm.
The July minutes were read via email prior to the meeting
and approved.
Janette and Am were invited as potential new commissioners. Both are extremely qualified and Gloria had each fill out our matrix regarding their skills and experience. Debra Bufton was invited and is interested in the position, but she was unable to attend tonight’s meeting.
Angel Austin, the Summer Celebration co-coordinator, stated
that she felt our celebration went very well with no real problems except for
the extraordinary heat that weekend. The
attendance was down also due to the extreme heat.
As per policy, the commissioners all agreed to send Lesley Atlansky
flowers for her time spent as a commissioner.
Jami agreed to handle the ordering.
Mauragrace reminded us that she will be writing the 2006
Oregon Arts Commission report, but not the 2007 application which is due in
October. We will contact Jane Reid to
see if she can work with Debra Bufton on this.
Estacada Tourism Committee - Mauragrace reported that the
City Council has indicated a desire to have the Chamber of Commerce manage the
TDC grant monies. This is tentative and
she will update us when she knows more.
Estacada Chamber of Commerce – Gloria stated she will try
to attend next month’s meeting and report back.
Angel reported that the Mural Art Walk is still a work in
progress and she is still collecting information, but that the initial walk was
very successful.
Centennial Art Project – No report at this time.
Library 1% for Art – Angel reported she will be meeting
with Randy to discuss this and should know more by the next meeting.
Friends of the Arts (FOTA) Rochelle stated she will be sending out forms
to all the potential FOTA’s using our volunteer list and will report back next
month on the results.
Jami will connect with Jane Reid from Estacada Together and
will try to decide when they should and can meet to plan the upcoming year’s
cultural events.
Gloria reported on the Library Quilt Project that the Skip-A-Week
quilt club is taking on. They are
hand-building a quilt that will look like a library shelf with books. They are selling book titles for $15 each. Gloria’s idea was for the Arts Commission to
purchase a book and have it titled, “…the spark that inspires…” by the Estacada
Area Arts Commission. All the
commissioners thought it was a great idea and the
motion was passed unanimously.
This will be ready for September’s meeting.
This will be ready for September’s meeting.
Jami said she will be responsible for this project now that
Summer Celebration has passed.
Mauragrace - This will be ready for September’s
meeting.
HOORAY!! Estacada
received the Oregon Symphony’s two-year Community Music Partnership
program. The CMP funding is provided by
the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ford Family Foundation and the
PacificCorp Foundation for Learning. The
article in this week’s Estacada Newspaper explains more of the details.
Mauragrace still plans on teaching us at our September
meeting. She will bring handouts and
invite other grant writers as well.
Gloria reminded us to be on the lookout for potential new
commissioners using our matrix information.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm.
The next meeting will be held September 6, 2006.
Respectfully submitted,
Jami Berry, Secretary
