Parks and Recreation Retreat
August 17, 2005
Minutes
Called to Order 6:15pm by Steve Gulliams
Location: Whispering Pines Senior Village, Estacada Oregon
Present: Steve Gulliams (Vice Chair), Mike Uhlig, Lisa Homan
Absent: Shawna Roberts, Dianna Turk (Chair), Tracie Loughheed, Zoe Miller
Discussed Current Developments in Burn to Learn/Valburg Lumber Building
Lisa spoke with Alan Hull Fire Chief and he was
fine with the event idea. She has not been able to contact anyone with the
school about use of bleachers and has requested assistance in getting this
accomplished.
Mike was able to gain use of the old Ford lot
for parking from new owners, he was also able to get a bid on the t-shirts.
This project needs to move forward to vote by commission and on to council so
that we may proceed as shirts are already selling. Mike spoke with his contact
about hot dog vending and it was decided that this is not feasible due to
constraints of permitting and licensing. Mike suggested we sell just beverages
and pre-packed snacks.
Steve has not yet been able to locate skateboard
for raffle launch at the event.
Did not come up with a solution to the line of
sight tree issue.
Possible problem could be if the library has
equipment moved onto the sight in late September. Mike is working on this and
waits a response for a more firm date of when they will begin setting for
construction.
Discussed some other fund raising/community outreach programs:
Cocktail/appetizer event, possibly black tie.
100 invitations Saturday October 22, 2005 7pm-10pm Community Center $10 pp.
Mike will work on some donations from wineries
and will talk to the arts commission about some artist drawing of what the park
could look like.
Lisa will work on the guest list and check with
Kelly at Community Center to see availability.
Will need to get donation of appetizers.
Will need our chair person to say a few things
about our activities and the new park
Discussed kids coloring contest:
Lisa will work on some black and white drawings
for coloring
Kids will get a sponsor for $10 and turn in
their completed art and sponsor monies. (location to be determined)
We find a few local business owners or members
of arts commission to judge the entries.
Prize will be a portion of the sponsor monies
with the remainder going to the park project.
Have local paper run winner if space allows.
The importance of recognizing all those that make these events possible was talked about and that we need to keep records of those that aid in our quest.
Also discussed was the response from Phil pertaining to grant from E.C.F. and although they may not be able to fund the entire project we should apply for a grant for some of the monies needed for the Wade Creek Master Plan.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15pm
