OLD BUSINESS

Arts & Culture Series 2005

The consensus was that our Arts and Culture series this year was very successful.  There were good turnouts at each event and using different venues was a plus.   The latest, Sojourn Theatre – Witness Our Schools, had good attendance and was very well received.  Jami will send out thank-you letters to those who gave of their time and energy to help make these events so great.  We agreed that next year we would plan earlier starting in September.

Mauragrace and Gloria agreed to assist Estacada Together for the Obo Addy event on May 13th.  The other commissioners will be out of town.  They will be helping out front and it was agreed that having the Summer Celebration information there will be helpful.

Centennial Arts Project Update

Katinka reported that the City Council voted to accept John Wilson as the concrete providers for this project.  The fountain will need to have a separate electrical box, which the city agreed to put in if the Arts Commission share in the cost of $1772.  The City Council also stated they would consider adding the three benches out front in their next year’s budget.  Jami brought a check for $302.90 – the commission earned from selling books on Amazon.com for the project.

Summer Celebration 2005

Jane reminded us that our next Summer Celebration meeting will be June 2 at 6:30 pm and will be held at her home.  Jane stated they have begun writing grants for next year’s celebration.  Gloria volunteered to take on the task of asking local businesses for money donations for this year’s celebration.  The idea of having a Summer Celebration CD with music from past performers was discussed and was well received.   There are a number of things that need to be accomplished prior to that happening and Gloria will ask a few local people about participating in the process and those costs.  Jane will email Dave Graff about the reality of this process.  It was discussed whether we would sell them or give them away.  It was decided to find out all the other information before making that decision.

NEW BUSINESS

Local and Regional Arts Council Meeting

Jane attended a meeting of local and regional arts council sponsored by the Oregon Arts Commission and Cultural Trust on Wednesday, May 4.  The reason for the meeting was to clarify the different grants programs and the legislative process around the budgets of the two organizations, to provide an opportunity for networking among those attending, and to discuss ways the OAC can offer the most relevant technical assistance to local and regional councils.  It was attended by about 30 people, and everyone had a chance to speak briefly about their organization.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

The next meeting will be held June 1, 2005.

Respectfully submitted,

Jami Berry, Secretary
