Minutes
The February minutes were unavailable, will read and approve at April meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Spring Arts and Culture Series
Lesley agreed to contact the Springwater Grange to set up access to the Grange. Lesley will send out the press release for the Writer’s Night, copy the posters, and deliver them to Jerry Atlansky for distribution.
Discussed how to enhance communication among Commissioners so there is no confusion as to our duty at each SACS event. This is crucial with events that the Arts Commission does not directly sponsor but still has involvement in, such as PAGE and Estacada Together concerts. Decided to serve only juice and cookies, as it is generally too late for coffee. Discussed how to involve volunteers and create a hospitality subcommittee. Volunteers would purchase and run refreshment table.
Jane and Angel were appointed to a Witness Our Schools subcommittee to spread the word about the program throughout the community.
Centennial Arts Project Update
The Meyer Grant was submitted. Jami Berry agreed to back the project until grant money and donations come in. Further business will be asked for donations.
Community Survey
Surveys were tallied from the PAGE performance. 18 had attended a previous SACS event, 11 had not. 17 had attended a previous ESC, 8 had not. Most previous Summer Celebration attendees cam in 2003 and 2004. Survey agreed that the Arts Commission was answering the needs of the community. Other events people are interested in are theatre, music performances, and films.
Summer Celebration 2005
Lesley gave an update on the interest in the newly added Art Festival. Several gallery members had signed up and the artist’s mediums are very diverse. The gallery members will be asked again, and if they cannot fill up the space available the greater Clackamas County area artists will be approached.
Action Plan
The Action Plan was tabled due to lack of time.
NEW BUSINESS
Lesley brought up a unique community project that occurs in Portland called Intersection Painting. A neighborhood or community comes together to paint their street at an intersection and it serves as a meeting point. Discussed having local artists paint squares of sidewalk.
Angel stated that the Eagle Creek CRE is looking to get Portland Taiko to perform for the school, but they need monetary help. An idea of each child paying $1.00 to attend was discussed.
It was decided to make a stronger effort to keep the City Council updated on our activities.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lesley Atlansky
