Guests Present: Nina Hamilton and Ben Erickson
Commissioners
Absent: Katinka Bryk
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm.
The July minutes were read, corrected and approved.
Jane reported that after all bills are paid, the commission
has approximately $3,900. Jane also
recommended the commission create an official budget with line item breakdowns
and project categories.
Nina Hamilton reported on the first annual Recreational
Exhibition to take place on Saturday, September 4th from 12 to 5
pm. The purpose of the event is to have
local businesses, clubs, and organizations get together to promote themselves
and to network. Nina has applied To SOLV
for grants for flags and flagpoles. She plans on this annual event to perhaps
take place in May from now on. She would
like to see the Arts Commission involved in some way and the Commission agreed
that we could consider that for next May.
Jane is finalizing all billings and is working on final
reports to both the NEA and the Oregon Arts Commission. She is also working on the thank you letter
to the Estacada News Editor. She
reported that Pete O’Neil stated that he had no complaints regarding the
parking situation and has agreed to let us use the same site next year. Jami created letterhead for the commission to
use to write thank-you letters. The
committee will meet at Jack Townes on Wednesday, August 11, at 7:00 pm for a
debriefing meeting.
Eileen Belanger, who is an artist, a member of the Spiral
Gallery Co-op and one of the Artback artists.
The Artback artists would like to see some funding for the printing of
the Artback mural brochures.
Jane reported that Liza McQuade of the Oregon Film Council
told her that the locally filmed movie “Mean Creek” would be shown at the
Portland Art Museum on August 19th.
Jane asked about the possibility of it being shown in our local
auditorium and Liza recommended she contact the producer via email and that she
would help advocate for it. Jane agreed
to do this.
Jane recommended we start with item No. 2 instead of No. 1
as it has to do with the website which Lesley has agreed to create for the
commission. Gloria agreed to make
contact with Jeannette from the Chamber of Commerce about updating our
information on their website. We agreed
to have a sub-committee for working on the Action Plan as it will take too much
time during the regular meetings.
The city of Estacada is playing host to for the last leg of
this bike event which will be taking place in downtown Estacada on August 22nd. They expect 1500 people to attend. The races start between 8:00 and 9:00 am on
Broadway Street. The 50-mile race takes
riders along the Clackamas River to Ripplebrook and the longest route is going
around Timothy Lake. They are looking
for volunteers to help and will pay $20 per person for the organization they
are affiliated with.
The Estacada Community Foundation is doing a fundraiser
going on with the Clackamas restaurant Sweet Tomatoes, which will donate 20% of
sales from August 28 through September 10 that were generated by the
foundation’s flyer. We think this is a great fund-raiser and will keep it in
mind for the future.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jami Berry, Secretary
