ESTACADA ARTS COMMISSION

Commissioners Present: 

Jami Berry, Jane Reid, Gloria Feider Polzin, Katinka Bryk, Suzanne Dinsdale, Angel Austin, and

Lesley Atlansky

 

Guests Present: Nina Hamilton and Mimi Near

 

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm. 

 

Minutes

The October minutes were not available and will be read, corrected and approved at next month’s meeting.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Centennial Arts Project Update

Mimi Near, the artist selected, brought the budget and proposal for review.  The breakdown of costs was as follows: creating just the fountain pillar and installing - $7,000; the concrete basis and plumbing of the fountain on site - $1,300; and the concrete, glass and bench - $1,700.  The total is $10,000.  Katinka spoke with Chris Randall, head of Public Works, and he stated he would be happy to provide the plumbing to the fountain and concrete pad around the pad as donated funds.  The cost of $10,000 is Mimi’s costs - she is donating her time and energy to this project.  Suzanne and Jami will help her put together a complete packet to present to the City Council in three weeks.  Suzanne agreed to talk with Randy Ealy prior to this to ask about procedure.

 

 

Summer Celebration 2005

Jane reminded us that the next meeting would be held at her house on November 17th at 7:00 pm.

 

 

Estacada Arts Commission’s Action Plan

Katinka reminded us all to review the Action Plan now!!  Katinka has started work on the handbook and Lesley will be working on the web page.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Arts & Culture Series 2005

It was discussed and decided (tentatively) that the Arts & Culture Series this spring will be as follows:

          Jan. 21  - Springwater Grange

Keith Scales – In Search of Dionysus: God of Madness, Ecstasy, and Theater.

          Feb. 25 – Choir Room, High School

                   PAGE Theater group

          Mar. 18 or 25 – Springwater Grange

Writer’s Night with Steven Allred

          Apr. 15 – Council Chambers

                   Poet’s Night

          Apr. 17 or 24 – Auditorium

Sojourner Theater

 

Plans for each will be firmed up with phone calls and emails.  We will discuss advertising at next meeting.  It was discussed combining our advertising with Estacada Together on a mailing flyer.  We would make our own posters and distribute.
