TIMBER PARK MANAGEMENT
DISCUSSION - PGE Representatives – Norm Ernst, Tony Dentle, Deb Schallert,
Annette Mattson
The council discussed the management of the timber
park with PGE representatives. Deb
Weikum, representing the Parks & Recreation Commission, stated that the
Commission is definitely against PGE taking over the park and want the lease
renewed in 2006. PGE is in the process
of their licensing and they need to know what to plan for the Timber Park. Deb Schallert stated that there would be
money to help with the timber park even if PGE does not end up running the
park. PGE is willing to take over the
park at this time and to put a large amount of money into capital improvements
in the park over the next few years.
Community events would still be allowed in the park, including the 4th
of July event. Cr. Cheshier asked if
there would be charges for community events.
Tony Dentle stated that some of their parks have relatively small fees
such as for a covered shelter or a drive in fee on the weekends. There have been times when PGE has waived
fees and worked with organizations on events.
The council reviewed the options stated in the memo
enclosed in the packet. Deb Schallert
and Tony Dentle assured the council that the park will remain a park and that
it will be open to the community. They
will also make major improvements to the park over the years. Deb Schallert stated that the City is a
stakeholder in the park and would be consulted when major changes are being
proposed to the park. Deb Weikum stated
that she would be comfortable with PGE taking over the park the way it was
proposed tonight. She stated that the
Parks & Recreation Commission just wants to be sure that the park is
available to the community and for community events and she feels it will still
be available for these functions.
The councilors are very pleased with the presentation and have no more issues with PGE taking over the park. They all feel very comfortable with the proposal and that the park will become a better park for the community if it is turned over to PGE. The council would like this issue placed on the November 10, 2003 agenda for an official decision.
ADJOURNMENT
The workshop was adjourned at 7:05 pm.
