The meeting was called to
order at 7:05 pm.
April minutes were approved
as read.
No financial report at this
time.
The Local Writers Night was
very successful with lots of positive feedback from the community. There was a discussion regarding having a
writers group or series held here in Estacada.
Kate Bast agreed to talk with Stevan Allred about how to set up such a
group and ask if he would be interested in participating.
Kate spoke about a writing
group called, “Writing Around Portland” which is a free writing program,
usually for people or groups without resources or low-income. The program would cost $2,000 for a 10-week
course. It was discussed about the
problem of finding enough people to make it worthwhile. Jane suggested we try and work with local
writers first at little or no cost.
Actors-to-Go event – Jane will emcee the last A&L series
event on Friday, May 9th.
Jane Troeh will be providing coffee and cookies. All commissioners agreed to arrive at 5:45
pm to help set up. The Arts Commission
will raffle off a basket of goodies.
Due to
the limited amount of PR the workshop received, it was decided to reschedule
the workshop in mid June or September.
Jane will discuss this with Cheryl Snow and let us know.
The next
meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 pm at Barbara
Mattson’s home.
Randy
Ealy spoke with Katinka and Joe Cotter regarding a Centennial Mural for
Estacada. Randy would like a letter
from the Arts Commission endorsing such a mural and stating that the Arts
Commission would be supporting the mural by writing grants and asking for
private donations. This letter is to be
presented at the next City Council meeting by Randy. Jane, Jami, and Katinka will meet on Friday, May 9th
to write the letter. The next step in
this process would be the Selection Committee to be approved by the City
Council. There is some controversy
about the actual year of the Centennial.
Some say it is in 2005, most believe it is in 2004. Katinka will be investigating to be
absolutely sure before proceeding.
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
Respectfully
submitted,
Jami
Berry, Secretary
