Minutes

March minutes were read and approved

Financial Report

Jane reported that the account has approximately $2100.  Of that, $100 belongs to the group, PAGE, who will be setting up their own account this week.  Also of that amount, $650 belongs to the Auditorium Renovation Committee Fund that was raised during the Art Abrams event.  A check for that amount will be sent to Estacada Together to put into the auditorium’s fund account.

OLD BUSINESS

Policy and Procedure Update

Jane reported that the city council passed the Public Art Policies and Procedures. We will wait to reintroduce Percent for Arts.

Community Outreach Update

Jane and Katinka attended a School District’s Academic Task Force meeting, which is attended by principals, superintendent Call, and several teachers and parents. They spoke to the group about having a district commitment to arts education, so that all students have similar exposures to arts experiences. They encouraged district-wide teacher professional development in the arts, artist residencies in every school and continuation of performance assemblies that reach more than one school. Katinka and Jane felt they planted good “art seeds” and their suggestions were well received.

Clackamas County Cultural Trust Update: They are determined to continue to meet even if funding is diminished and currently three subcommittees are meeting regularly. Bill Bulick and Marta Mellinger have been hired as facilitators; they bring a wealth of knowledge to the project, which will include a county cultural inventory.

Auditorium Renovation Update

Jane reported that all monies are in and they successfully reached the $90,000 goal. September 20 is the tentative grand opening date, and Dave Bugni has contacted The Trail Band to perform.  There will be seed money for bringing in other outside performances.  The architectural rendering is available in the district office.  A walk-through is planned soon. Jane has met with Dave Bugni and Donna Cancio to discuss district/community use of the facility. The Arts Commission will represent the community, and an event coordinator will be needed.

Arts & Lectures Series

The Art Abrams event was very successful and an all around fun evening.  It had a large turnout with an estimation of approximately 350.  Art Abrams was very happy, even with difficulties with the school’s sound system.

Local Writer’s Event

Gloria will emcee the Friday, April 11th event.  Jane Troeh will be providing coffee and cookies.  Ben will videotape and bring a smaller microphone.  All commissioners agreed to arrive at 6 pm to help set up.

Summer Celebration Update

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at Jami’s house at 6:30 pm.

Distribution of Minutes

Traci is posting minutes on the city’s website, but is not able to send them to other commissions and organizations.

State of Arts in Oregon

Jane read a portion of RACC’s recent newsletter telling of several proposed bills that will seriously affect funding for the Oregon Arts Commission and the Oregon Cultural Trust. This is a difficult time for many programs in the state (and other states as well), and both of these programs are in major trouble. Commissioners were encouraged to write to Kurt Schrader and Randy Miller of Ways and Means, as well as our local representatives, explaining how arts funding has played an important role in our community.

NEW BUSINESS

Grant Workshop

Cheryl Snow has agreed to facilitate a Grant Writing 101 workshop.  The cost will be between $75 and $100. Everyone who attended the Estacada Summit will be invited, since this was a need identified by many of the participants.  This free event will be held at City Hall at 7 pm on April 30.  The library and the city manager will also help present resources.  A motion for the Arts Commission to pay half the fee passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Jami Berry, Secretary
