ESTACADA ARTS COMMISSION

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm.

 

Financial Report

No financial report at this time.

 

Citizen Input

Nina Hamilton submitted a newspaper feature detailing Hood River’s Community Arts Walk.  She suggested something similar might be appropriate for Estacada and warrant further investigation by the commission.  Members agreed.

 

Old Business

 

Estacada Together/Friends of EPA

Jane reported that FEPA had its first official meeting.  The group showed a willingness to function as an umbrella organization for other arts groups in the community, creating a wealth of potential.

 

Festival and Events Planning Meeting

Jane reported her attendance at the meeting, giving an overview of purpose and content.

 

Centennial Arts Project

Katinka stated that Am Griswold, Diane Housen, Irene Adams and Ben Erickson have submitted applications for the project selection committee.  Two more artist applicants are needed.  Commissioners suggested Nina Bradford and Jenny Joyce as possibilities.

 

Summer Celebration 2004

Jane reported that the Arts Commission has been recommended for a $10,000 NEA Grant, the largest grant awarded to the commission thus far.  The members received the news with enthusiasm. Dave Grafe will lead a planning meeting focusing on event performers on December 5, 2003, 5:00 pm at Cazadero Inn.  Future Summer Celebration planning meetings have been set for January, 2004.  Detailed reminders will be sent to members.

 

Arts & Culture Series

The decision was made by commission members to cancel the film series due to complications.  Jane contacted Mary Bywater Cross, who will be available to present on July 14, 2004.  Members discussed other possible performers, including Steven Allred and PAGE to appear in February and March respectively.  Jane and Gloria agreed to research Artists Repertory Theatre and CCC Poets, securing dates if appropriate.

 

1% for Art Ordinance

Gloria gave a final reading of the ordinance, and the commission made corrections.  Suzanne Dinsdale will present the final draft to the City Council.

 

New Business

 

Cultural Forum

Jane briefed the commission regarding probable content of the upcoming Cultural Trust meeting with Cheryl Snow of the Clackamas County Arts Alliance.  The meeting is to be held Wednesday, December 10, 6:30 pm at Gloria’s home.

 

Christmas Celebration

The Commission discussed its involvement, if any, of the upcoming celebration.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
