Citizen Input

Irene Adams inquired about any Estacada signage the Arts Commission would be involved in as she is part of PRIDE (Program of Revitalization In Downtown Estacada) and didn’t want to duplicate anything the arts commission would be a part of.  As a representative of PRIDE, Irene had already received permission from ODOT to put up a sign on east end of town (near the barriers and the Goodwill truck) and wants the Arts Commission to be involved in the creation of a “gateway park.”  Katinka suggested we need to create better communication between ODOT, PRIDE, Arts Commission, and the City of Estacada.  Paula Nelson stated that this property and signage issue would be covered as part of the Cultural Tourism program.  We all agreed to let each know any news via email.

OLD BUSINESS

Centennial Arts Project Update

Katinka reported that only two replies came in from the ad in the newspaper – Irene Adams and Ben Erickson.  Katinka will write an article for the newspaper about the arts project in hopes of getting a better response and asked that each commissioner seek out community members to become volunteers.

Estacada Together/Friends of EPA

Jane reported that Estacada Together now has a new board but with the same mission statement.  It is the same group but is also doing business as “Friends of the Estacada Performing Arts.”  Debbie Anderson is the Chair, Jane is a Vice-Chair, Dave Bugni is Secretary, Steve Christensen is a Vice-Chair, and Laney Jones is Treasurer.  The group still has its 501c status and can still collaborate with the same kinds of organizations it had before.

Arts & Culture Series

The Arts Commission wants to run a film series at the auditorium.  It was discussed that we should run our series first and end with a couple run in conjunction with Estacada Together.  Suzanne Dinsdale will ask Debbie Anderson about the $65 films and will print out a schedule of available films.  A sub-committee will meet at Barb’s house on the 13th at 6:30 pm to further discuss the A&C series.  Jane reported that the Chataqua Series has been swamped and the monies will not be available until summer.  Jami agreed to contact Keith Scales regarding his fee.  Jane will contact Mary Bywater Cross regarding her availability and fees.

NEW BUSINESS

Community Tourism

Bob Austin gave a brief synopsis of the 3rd meeting of the development of the Estacada Community Tourism Action Plan.  There was a big turnout for these and Linda Bell spoke for at first two meetings and the third had just ended prior to our meeting.   Their goal was the formation of a community-wide tourism organization – consisting of many of the already formed groups or committees in the community.  The focus was on tourism for Estacada, catering to the recreationers of the area and by starting with community marketing plan, streetscapes, identifying community assets, gateway signage and the upcoming Centennial Celebration.  It will be formed right after the first of the year.

Katinka asked about the funding of this project.  Bob Austin stated that after the actual marketing plan and the city and community-endorsed plan was finalized, the organization would be ready to apply for grants.  The arts commission will appoint a representative to this committee by the end of the evening.

Cultural Forum

Cheryl Snow of the Clackamas County Arts Action Alliance will be coming out to facilitate a planning/vision meeting on November 19th at 6:30 pm at Gloria’s home.

Summer Celebration Meeting Update

Jane completed the Arts Builds Community Grant and received rave reviews from the Oregon Arts Commission for a great application.  The commission’s strategies now are to move ahead and complete more available grant applications.   Barbara spoke with Norm Ernst from PGE and he stated the commission is on the roster this year for a grant.  Jane agreed to investigate Safeco for grant applications.

Barbara agreed to volunteer to be our representative in the new Cultural Tourism committee that will begin in January.

1% for Art Ordinance

Katinka read through the entire art ordinance and the commission made suggestions and corrections.  Katinka will submit to the City Council next month.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Jami Berry, Secretary
