MINUTES FOR APRIL 3, 2002
Attending:

Guest:
Nina Hamilton
Meeting
was called to order at 7:08. Katinka read minutes for March. Minutes were
approved as read.
Gloria
suggested the donation jar at the Arts & Lecture Series stand apart from
the food table so there is no confusion about what the donations are for. Everyone
agreed.
Jane
reported the Arts Commission now has $500.00 in its account.
OLD
BUSINESS:
Jane
has scheduled a meeting with Inovative Graphic Solutions in Gresham on Tue.
April 9. Kristy Engelbrecht of the Estacada Parks and Recreation Commission will
also be there. They will be discussing banner design and colors. This company
will do banners at cost and they should be ready by late May.
Katinka
reported that both of the A.R.T.'s Estacada project performances of "The
Chair Wasn't There" were sold out! She said the audience left miling. Yeah Estacada!
Katinka
and Jane attended a RACC Outreach workshop called " Marketing Your Arts
Organization". They both felt they learned things that could be of benefit
to the commission.
Barbara
and Jane reported the sad news of losing a friend and associate,
Vince
Kohler who died recently. Vince covered Clackamas Co. and was a writer for the
Oregonian. He was always very supportive of the arts.
Barbara
volunteered to send sympathy cards to the Oregonian and to Vince's wife.
It
was reported that the Arts and Lecture Series performance of Tygres Heart
Shakespeare Co. on March 8th had an audience of about 55 people!
AWESOME!
Katinka
will be printing up the flyers for the next Arts and Lecture Series performance
of "Taps: The Civil War in Words and Song" to be performed on
Fri.
April 12. These flyers will be made available to be distributed on Saturday,
April 6. She is also making up a list of locations to make it easier to
distribute them. Jane Troeh will be opening for this performance.
Barbara
volunteered to send thank you notes to Kate Hawkes from A.R.T. and Tygres Heart
Shakespeare Co.
Web
page update to be continued.
Katinka
reported there are 19 people so far that are interested in participating in the
Co-Op Gallery. There needs to be 32. She will speak to Vince to see if the
bldg. is still available. Norma and Katinka will be working together on it.
SUMMER
CELEBRATION UPDATE: Jane will be sending a contract to J.R. Sims, one of the
many fabulous performers at the celebration.
Katinka
is working with a graphic designer, Leslie Atlansky, for the logo and also has
submitted the street closure application to the city. There is a $250
refundable clean-up deposit.
The
city council has determined that the stage will be available for free for the
Arts Commission events unless the extension needs to be installed.
Gloria
reported that Farmstead Flowers again will donate flowers and shrubs, but will
need help with delivery.
There
are still some access issues between the mural and the stage, which are getting
worked out.
The
"Pocket Park" may be the responsibility of the Parks and Recreation
Commission.
The
Farmers Market is still being discussed. A one-time event may be possible
during the Celebration street closure. Bev is working on the outreach of farmer
participation.
The
next Celebration planning meeting will be Wed., April 10.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Brent
Lawrence resigned due to his busy schedule, but he will remain involved in the
Commission's work. Thank you, Brent, for all you have done. The Commission will
be looking for a new member.
The
Commission decided it would be a good idea to establish guidelines for new
Commission members.
All
members agreed that contributors need to be recognized.
Public
Art Policy: Katinka attended an Artback meeting to discuss the status of
ownership of the existing murals and future murals in Estacada.
They
are working on establishing a policy.
Jane
received a copy of a letter sent to the Historical Society from Phil
Lingelbach
of Estacada Development Assoc. regarding creating a walking tour for Estacada.
The commission thinks it’s a great idea but doesn't feel the need to seek
involvement.
Katinka
has been working to retain existing art in the schools that are being
renovated. They have decided to mount the art work on panels that can then be
re-hung in the new buildings. There is a committee that is being formed by the
school district to determine what is to be saved.
In
researching Jury Standards for Art, Gloria could not find much information and
concluded that is left to personal discretion.
Jane
will contact Cheryl Snow in regard to facilitating another workshop.
Judy
Schultz invited Jane to apply for a position with the Arts Action Alliance of
Clackamas County.
Meeting
was adjourned.
