Jim called the meeting to order at 2:10 and introductions were made since this was Pam’s and Allie’s first meeting. Dean moved that the minutes of the last meeting be approved. and Pam seconded the motion and they were unanimously accepted.
The principal item of business was the discussion of the Specifications of the new Estacada Public Library. Beth presented an overview of the preliminary vision that was created by Jack, Katinka and herself. Basically the library would be divided into two areas with different functions. The first area would be a quiet reading/study area and adult book collection. The second area would allow more social interaction centered around a circulation area. In this area, the A/V materials, the children’ and teen’s collections, the magazine collection and other language materials would be housed. Full discussions centered around the community’s need for Internet access, an A/V room, a multicultural area, or a book store, and whether it was the library’s function to provide these spaces. What groups and functions will use a meeting room and are there other facilities that can meet this need? Additional functions were discussed as well. Should we consider including space for a museum collection? For an art gallery? The committee is initially considering a stand alone one story structure concept to incorporate the Vision in the most complete manner.
Jim presented an outline of Task Force functions that he had thought of since the last meeting. He went over this list and asked the members to fill in any holes that he may have missed. He wants to form working committees at the next meeting. He also wants to establish a budget for the work of the Task Force.
Bev mentioned that the Newport Library issued a monthly newsletter to all constituents to keep people informed as to the progress of a two year library remodel. She had brought back examples of the publications and they were available for us to study. She also advised us that the Estacada Economic Improvement District is going to hire a half-time administrator who will be responsible for fundraising and marketing, and that perhaps this group could look into hiring him/her for some of our needs.
The next meeting is set for the 1st of August at 9am. Meeting was adjourned at 4:15pm.
