Attending; Jane Reid, Katinka Bryk, Norma Piper, Barbara Mattson,
Gloria Polzin, Karen Veselik
Guests: Jane Troeh, Gary Guttridge, Sherrill Pratt, Barbara Montgomery, Teri
Hansen
Due to lack of a quorum last meeting there were no February minutes to
approve.
Barbara Mattson was elected Vice-Chair through a motion made by Katinka
and seconded by Karen. Unanimous vote.
Secretary position will remain rotating, and on this schedule: April/May=Norma,
June/July=Gloria, August/September=Karen, October/November=Barbara,
December/January=Katinka.
Ms. Pratt, Montgomery and Hansen exhibited their oil and acrylic
paintings. They were unanimously approved by the commission for inclusion in
the artists roster.
Gary Guttridge gave update on Lewis and Clark Pageant. They have
decided not to have their event in conjunction with the Summer Celebration. He
said they would rather enjoy the weekend of fun the commission is putting on,
and then have their event in mid August.
Jane R reviewed the budget. There is approximately $100
available, but we are showing an increased financial history by the grants that
are passing through- looking good for future grant writing. Jane T suggested
potential fundraising idea of the Estacada Tea Ladies having a tea with the
proceeds going to the commission. Jane R mentioned that The Chair Wasn’t There
production was interested in turning over their donations to the commission.
Other ideas were an art raffle at the Summer Celebration. Gloria said we made
$14 in donations at our last event.
Old Business:
Banners: Jane R reported that things are perking along, but it is more
complicated than had been expected.
Artists Repertory Theater Estacada Project: Moving along well, all participants
are excited, performances are on March 16 at 7pm and March 17 at 3pm. Great
job!
Tourism Development Council: Katinka reported meeting with Linda Bell
who is encouraging the Commission to proceed with the mural curriculum guide
idea. Linda suggested a project grant for it, as it could be marketed as a
manual for tour bus guides.
Spring Arts and Lecture Series: Artis rep was great, 35-40 people
attended- positive feedback, success! Barbara will send thank you cards. Thank
you Thank you Thank you Barbara for all the thank you cards you have sent in
the past, all the thank you cards you will send this week, and all the thank
you cards you will send in the future! We Thank you! And a big Thank you to
Jane Troeh for her volunteer work with us on the Spring Arts and Lecture
Series- THANK YOU!
Estacada Summer Celebration: Jane T reported that the city council
reviewed our stage waiver and said they would approve if or the basic stage,
but the extended stage requires a $125 fee for transportation and set-up. Jane
R said she would ask Brent D if the choirs need a bigger stage and if so if he
would pay the fee.
Norma has been busy getting donations (yea Norma! You rock!). Eagle Foundry has
promised $50 but is seriously considering $500, Les Schwab has promised $500.
She is on the trail of PGE, and will check on the status of our letters sent to
Hi-School Pharmacy and Bank of the West. Great job!
Estacada Arts Commission brochure: Katinka will attempt this project soon.
Deadline end of May.
New business:
Public art policy: Katinka has been in contact with Metro Murals (
www.metromurals.org if any one is interested) and has received numerous
contracts from other mural communities. She is attending the next Artback
meeting on Sunday March 10, and will report back on the ‘ownership’ issue after
that.
Art jurying standards: Gloria will pursue existing standards from other
organizations and the commission will develop a written policy regarding this.
RACC:
Jane, Norma and Katinka will attend workshop “Leadership from the Ground
Up" on Saturday March 9. Exciting!
CCN: Jane suggested idea of newspaper insert about artists similar to
the recent one on women in business.
Next meeting April 3, 2002 7 pm
That’s it! We work hard, we do awesome things and WE ALL ROCK!!!
