OLD BUSINESS

Percent for Art Policy and Procedure Update

The policy and procedures were presented again by Katinka and Jane and discussed by the City Council but no action was taken. The Commission decided to wait until the newly elected council takes office before presenting them again. Since the major objection by several council members seems to focus on the percent for art portion, we will focus on having the procedures approved first.

Gallery Update

Jami commented on the constant flow of people coming through the gallery and the amount of new artists.  The gallery is up to 51 artists at present.

Auditorium Committee Update

Jane reported that the auditorium committee met last week to tour the auditorium, which has been stripped down to its bones in preparation for the upgrade work to be done. They were able to test the work of the upholstery firms that had bid on the project and selected one to do all the seat backs and cushions. On Thursday, Dec. 5, a fund officer from the Meyer Memorial Trust will visit the site.

Community Outreach

*   Jane attended the County Arts and Cultural Forum sponsored by the Arts Action Alliance of Clackamas County on December 3. Over 100 representatives of various arts, culture and heritage organizations in the county attended. Jane was asked to speak about the role the arts are playing in Estacada.

*   The “Oregon Cultural Trust” is a state fund that will eventually have $50 million to be used for arts, heritage and culture in the state.  The funding is acquired three ways: sales of lands, donations from large groups, and sales of a new state license plate.  The money will be distributed yearly to major arts/heritage/cultural organizations, to counties and tribes, and to individual to groups (such as our Arts Commission) through grants. At this time the counties and tribes in the state are working on individual plans that will guide how the funding is distributed.

*   Community Theater Group

This community theater group, inspired by last year’s theater experience with Artist Repertory Theatre, has requested and received funding from Estacada Together to offer a series of theater classes by Kate Hawks. This will go through the Community School and will take place at the Community Center early next year. Dwight and Katinka have worked on getting this together and the Arts Commission will be the conduit for the funds.

Arts & Lectures Series

Gloria has completely organized the scheduling of the series through a chart.  This contains all the A&L information and the dates by which we as a group are to have completed our assigned tasks.

NEW BUSINESS

Changes in Meeting Dates

Due to various conflicts, we are changing the Arts Commission meeting date to the 2nd Wednesday for the next two months.  So January’s meeting will take place the 8th, and February’s meeting will be held the 12th.

Gateway Sign Committee

Karen will speak to Randy Ealy about the sign design and report back at next meeting.

January Community Meeting

Jane reported that there is no date as yet for this community forum, but it will most likely take place at Collins Retreat Center.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Jami Berry, Secretary
