Estacada Arts Commission Meeting Minutes

August 1, 2001

Called to order 7:10 pm

Attending: Ellen Radcliffe, Gloria Polzin, Jane Reid, Barbara Mattson, Katinka, Nina Bradford. Guests Dianna Turk and Elaine Butler.

Minutes of July 11, 2001 revised as follows: Brent and Nina were not in attendance, Diana should be Dianna of the Parks and  Recreation Committee. Minutes then approved as revised.

Elaine Butler spoke of her work with the Lewis and Clark pageant and her hopes for it in 2005-06. She is working with the Jackknife-Zion Historical Society on grants for the event, probably from the Oregon Heritage Commission  http://www.oregonheritage.org/. She is interested in creating a soundtrack on cd using local bands/choirs to use as background music for the pageant and to sell as a fundraiser.  Yes, Katinka will write a letter of support if that is a requirement of the grant. Jane suggesting connecting with Artists Repertory Theater regarding their grant for rural outreach and dramatic productions. She will arrange a meeting with Kate Hawke of ART for late August and invite Elaine and Maxine Chadwick.

Dianna Turk of Estacada Parks and Recreation reviewed the activities of that commission such as revision of the master plan for the Timber Park, SOLV support and the development of pocket parks throughout town. She shared their new mission statement. A youth survey has been approved by the city council and will be distributed through the schools this fall.  We told her of a plan for the Broadway pocket park from Am Griswold to

do ceramic wall murals.

Jane Re: SOLV. They have two small grants of $250.00 each for banner brackets and banners for the downtown area. Perhaps the Arts commission can support or guide this effort in some way. These projects need to be completed by October (!). Dianna is requesting an extension (good idea).

Summer Celebration Follow up:

Thank you cards and envelopes designed and purchased by Ellen (thank you!) and will be sent to all volunteers and specific businesses ASAP. We need to combine all lists and divvy up the handwriting of the cards. Letter to editor of CCN will be coming soon.

Winter Arts Exhibition:

Gloria will contact Ron Rose re: empty Petals and Treasures building on Broadway as site for a December 8th opening and a subsequent 2 week show staffed by volunteers to coincide with the busy Christmas shopping season. Janice Packard needs to be reminded of the date for student work. Reception to include high school singers? wine and cheese? handmade ornaments? Need to connect with the Chamber, invite city council etc.

Artists Reception:

The evening of Dec 6th will be intake for the Winter Arts Show.  Artists will be asked to stay and meet with us, wining and dining while they deliver their art. Time for us to do a short survey of what they want/expect from us, what they think we can do for them. We will provide info from Oregon Arts  commission, Clackamas County Arts Action Alliance, RACC and any other organization we find. Discuss opportunities for artists roster a la McMinnville (Jane getting a copy of that roster is

your homework).  (ON Thursday Aug. 2 Katinka  contacted the Oregon Arts Commission who will send newsletters and brochures and info on the percent for art program,  and Cheryl Snow/ Berdine of Clackamas County Arts Action Alliance who will be happy to attend and bring their literature. She also spoke to Jami Berry who is cheerfully willing to work on a brochure for the ES Arts Comm.)
